Thoughtstream Media just got an HDCAM SR deck. The SRW-5500 is the highest quality tape machine available and is used for high-end commercials, HD network delivery and film DI work.
Not only is he a tireless furniture huckster and a poet, John Hartmann has an art show that opens at art6 Gallery (6 E. Broad St) on First Friday (7/6). He’ll also be reading poetry 7/8, 2 pm at the Gallery (free wine, he pointed out).
Stephen Brandt’s animated short, “nyc 2057ad,” makes its television premiere on Logo Network’s “Alien Boot Camp” 7/3 at 10pm. If you saw the original version on his website, you’ll recognize that the original corporate references have been replaced with mock ones (legal stuff).
Todd Raviotta’s short film “At the River” has been selected for Outfest Film Festival’s 25th anniversary program (screening in LA on 7/13). The film also received “Best in Show” at the RVA Arthouse Festival and the WTF award from the 8th annual Birthday of the Universe Film Festival in Fairfax.

DP/filmmaker Patrick Gregory will be part of a group show that opens 7-9pm, 7/13 at the Sol Cooper Gallery (306 N. Sycamore St., Petersburg).
Astray Productions first feature, “The Madcap Three” is on sale now on their website. Meanwhile, their concert film, “The Gaskets, Loose Change Live,” featuring the synth pop group is on sale at the band’s website.

WWBT-12 has 2 part time positions open. (1) Production Specialist: includes weekend and morning shifts with duties including camera, CG, editing, floor directing, teleprompting and audio. College graduate or upper-classman preferred. (2) PT Master Control Technician: includes weekends/nights and some holidays with duties including on-air switching, commercial dubbing & satellite feeds. 1 year experience in Master Control preferred. CBS-6/CW Richmond Creative Service Department received Bronze Telly Awards for promotional launch spots (Virginia this Morning and a Chik-fil-a Charity Dodgeball) and a Silver Telly Award for the “Haunted Virginia” segment in Virginia this Morning.

The 2-year documentary produced by Robert Griffith/Griffith Films, “Movie Making in Virginia 3” is in post and slated for distribution in fall. It showcases the depth of talent in the our production community thru interviews with more than 50 actors, writers, producers, directors, and crew.
C3 will present a panel discussion on “Making a Business of Creativity” 6pm, 7/24 at Cafe Gutenberg (1700 E Main St). $10 includes appetizers, sodas and coffee.

LionHeart FilmWorks has just released a new doc: “Yorktown: Battle for Victory 225th Anniversary Commemorative DVD” which was shot last October and features more than 2700 re-enactors.

37 Filmmaking teams participated in Richmond’s 48 Hour Film Project this past weekend. You can see their efforts on 8/4 at the Byrd Theatre. There will be 3 screenings of 12-13 films each at 10:30am, 1:00pm, and 3:30pm. $6 per screening. For details visit the website.
