A music video is being shot downtown Saturday for Savage Sun and they’re looking for extras. Email for details. (If you’re following TVJerry on Twitter, you got the notice).
As I reported in April, that “production company” is indeed moving into Scott’s Edition. Here’s a link to the official story about Studio Center’s new home (opening next month).
The 4th annual Virginia Production Alliance BBQ is 8/1, 4 – 8 at Edgewater (6001 River Road). Members and their guest free, $5 all others.
Amelia Zontini is formulating Project GREENScreen under the canopy of the Virginia Production Alliance & with the support of the Virginia Film Office.
The goal is to encourage production companies to be more environementally conscious while shooting in Virginia. Email her at the link above if you want details.
There’s a casting for non-speaking male roles in a National Geographic TV show. 7/14 all day. Roles unpaid but will get credit. Contact Natalie Jaime.
I’m sure we don’t want to hear this in Virginia, but one state says their film tax breaks don’t work. Read for yourself.
“Witness to a Century,” a doc by WCVE PBS and the Virginia Historical Society, won a Bronze Telly Award in the TV doc category. It’s a look at the state through the eyes of people 100 years or older.
Border Town was released on DVD last week.
Richmond’s Mike Henry got some ink in this week’s “Entertainment Weekly.” His new animated sitcom, “The Cleveland Show,” has got Earth, Wind & Fire to record a song for the show (premieres 9/27 on Fox)..

Producer Jake Pulliam just finished up a 7-month project for TLC called “Restorer Guy” (starts airing this Tue at 7pm). All 13 episodes about restoring old homes were shot in the area starting last November (as was teased here). Actual Reality Pictures hired Jake and the VA crew.

The next Project Resolution is 7/26, 7pm at the Firehouse Theatre. If you’re showing a project arrive at 6:30. Prompt is “Dave.” Free to all.
The Richmond Ad Club’s July Happy Hour is 7/30, 5:50 – 7:30 at the Vault (1005 E. Main St.)
The James and Me video competition is looking for entries that convey your personal connection with the James River. First prize gets $1K.

Week of July 27, 2009
Those of you with trained eyes may notice a few subtle revisions on “Tales.” There is 1 new tab at top: The “Photo Gallery” has been renamed “Media” because it includes video. Also, the “Projects” page has been completely re-designed (thanks to Sharif) with categories, instead of dates.
I dropped by the 4pm screening of the 48 Hour Project on Saturday at the Byrd, The place was packed! It’s great to see so many people enjoying home-grown production. I was also honored to be chosen as one of this year’s judges…more on that next week.
1708 Gallery is holding a contest for a 20-sec art video to be used as a PSA for InLight in September. (Last year’s event was amazing!). Winner will get $250 and see it broadcast on air and web. Visit the site for details.
The next Virginia Production Alliance meeting is 6-8pm, 7/27 at Artworks (320 Hull St.). Open to all.
A new reality show for PBS, Hannah Help Me!” was produced by In Your Ear and Artisian Entertainment and shot mostly in Richmond. Hannah Keeley is a mother of 7 who sets out to help other moms deal with their lives and families. It airs nationwide (locally 7:30am & 5pm on Saturdays).
