I went to the first First Friday opening hosted by 9WG Studios, which featured the paintings of Greig Leach. Feel free to drop by to see what he did while in Italy. Meanwhile, the studio is looking for artists to exhibit and will give preference to those in advertising, production, and music.
If you’re registered for Poop Alerts you got the notice about the audition for the new Coen Brothers movie last Saturday. If you didn’t you might want to register (see “Sign Up” at right). Also, if you’re not a 14-year-old girl you wouldn’t have qualified.
After editing all over the place, but calling Richmond his home, George Kelly is taking a job in Florida to be near his family. He says, “The Richmond production community has given me so much over the last 15 plus years and I am sad to be leaving it. The opportunity to be a father on a daily basis was way more important to me.”
The Social Media Club Richmond will present a panel on the use of Social Media to Promote Independent Film and Music, 12/10, at the Firehouse Theater. Todd Raviotta recently completed work on The Universal Monster Legacy project. His contributions included creating the intro for the site and preparing the highlight scenes from the movies. He says, “As a lover of the old monster movies, it was a dream to be asked to work on this, I had my own private master class while pulling the scenes.”
Ez Voices,. which provides VO services, was launched a few months ago with two local TV station accounts, but their business has grown worldwide. If you’re interested in adding your voice to their talent list, visit the site.

Week of December 14, 2009
James Franco’s NYU student film “Herbert White,” which was shot in Suffolk last Spring, will be screened at this years Sundance Festival Short Film Program. Local actors who were on the film included Terry Menefee Gau, Coby Batty and Kera O’Brien.
The Virginia Production Alliance is looking for businesses and services that would like to increase market share by offering a discount to VPA members. There is no charge to be included, but you must offer a real discount, Contact Kahil Dotay.

Week of December 21, 2009
I recently passed the Aquarian Bookstore in Carytown and I saw a poster in the window of local entertainment lawyer Kirk Schroder billed as a “psychic attorney.” Kirk’s explanation is much too complicated to include here and not nearly as interesting as the poster. Suffice it to say, it’s a legal rights thing.
Jeremy Zavik has accepted a position as a Design Engineer with CEI in DC.
“My River Bridge” landed the $1,000 prize for Shockoe Productions in the Professional Filmmaker category of the James and Me, Streaming the James Competition. The entry included music from the James River High School Combined Chorus and a song written by Professor Deen Entsminger.

I ran into Mike Henry (Richmond boy who created “The Cleveland Show") at Target on Xmas Eve. He told me that his character’s song “Get Your Hump on this Christmas with Earth, Wind and Fire (featuring Cleveland Brown) is available on iTunes. BTW, those who are registered for Poop Alerts (see right column) got this message on the 24th…in time for Christmas cheer!
The Virginia Film Office and Virginia Production Alliance will be hosting three State of the Industry meetings in 2010. This is an opportunity for production professionals to get together and find out what’s going on in Virginia media production. In addition to the Expo and Screening Rooms, there are hors d’oeuvres and an open bar. The Richmond event is 1/20, 6-9pm at Plant Zero (0 East 4th Street). The Screening Room is now accepting submissions of trailers, short films and film clips (10 minutes or less) with preference for work shot in 09 or currently in development or production. Visit the website for details or email Kathryn Stephens.
