ART ATTACK!
Leadership Metro Richmond holds “orientation” sessions for professionals who are transplanted to Richmond (for Philip Morris, Wachovia, etc.). Suzanne Hall from the Virginia Museum was put in charge of presenting the arts community overview. She wanted to capture the distinctive flavor and funkiness of First Friday Artwalks and called me to help.
Since there was no money and limited room in the car, I decided to shoot it myself (borrowing a camera, since I’ve never owned one). We visited a dozen galleries shooting art, people and street fun. The Happy Lucky Combo often plays on the sidewalk during these events, so two of their songs provided the soundtrack.
It was pure luck that we happened to capture three VCU students doing an “art attack” cheer in 1708 Gallery. That became the bookend for the video and provided the title.
