BIRD FLU
That phrase is all that’s needed to grab attention these days. When the Virginia Department of Health decided to produce an informational video on Avian Influenza, they contacted my old client Suzi Silverstein.
The Virginia Information Technology Agency was providing production services, but they needed some way to turn six interviews into an interesting video. My first suggestion was to create a Q&A approach with “citizens” (including one Spanish-speaking actor) asking questions that are answered by the experts.
There was only enough money for one day of shooting, so we had to make creative use of one conference room at the VDH building. First, it provided the space for a green screen, where we staged the “citizens” and the on-camera narrator (Cheryle Rodrigez). After lunch, we re-designed the same room to stand in for five different offices, adjusting bookcases, tables, lamps and other visual elements.
Charlie Reilly went to work editing. We used an attractive moving background to frame the green screen sequences. Additional graphics, photos and music finished it off before going out for statewide distribution. Now, let’s just hope we never see it come true!
