“COMMANDER IN CHIEF’S” LEFTOVERS
In 1999, I produced a cashier training video for the Virginia Department of Health’s WIC program. When it was time to update it, we teamed up again. ("We" includes Charlie Reilly at the Virginia Information Technology Agency.)
The role play scenes were shot in grocery stores (Kroger and Ukrops). We also shot scripted cashier interviews in these locations. Finally, we needed shots from a WIC clinic, but they were too busy to accommodate our schedule.
That’s when we called on the Virginia Film Office, who suggested the shooting space where the old tax department was located. The offices were re-worked to get that “clinic” feeling, but then we discovered the cool part. The building’s core is a large unobstructed space. It had recently housed the Air Force One interiors for “Commander in Chief” (airplane seats and other props were still there). We used the space to erect a green screen for narrators Katie McCall and Foster Solomon
