FROM RADIO TO TV

FROM RADIO TO TV

You may have heard “A Moment in Time,” the mini history lessons that are broadcast here and on 150 public broadcast stations around the country. The show’s announcer and executive producer Dan Roberts wanted to expand the show to television. After one meeting with me, I was hired to produce, edit and direct the pilot.

Originally, Richard Thomas ("The Waltons") was slated to be the narrator, but when negotiations become too complicated, we decided to let Dan do the job. We shot five :60 episodes in 16X9 on DigiBeta at a beautiful library on University of Richmond’s campus. That was only the beginning of the process.

Stock film, photographs and illustrations had to be obtained. I called Judith Snyderman (you may remember her from Signet days) to research and obtain the footage. Munqui’s Stephen Brandt cleaned up the stills and gave them movement through AfterEffects. Park Group’s Dave Swain designed a dazzling animated opening and Eric Hieberg added sweetening to the original score.

The result is a classy and network-quality pilot that’s on it’s way to a DVD sales package.
