PARKS GO HD
I’ve edited several projects for Virginia State Parks and in 2009 the department’s PR specialist Jim Meisner decided to hire me as a director for the first time.
For two days in June 2009, our small crew traveled to five parks (James River, Sailor’s Creek, Highbridge, Twin Lakes & Bear Creek). Some of the on-screen talent was recruited from real park fans through Twitter and some came through the Theatre Department at Longwood College. We shot them exclaiming what they “loved” about Virginia State Parks.
The spots end with a special “fan,” Governor Bob McDonnell, who was actually shot months earlier, when he and other gubernatorial candidates were at the state’s annual Shad Planking.
The decision to shoot High Definition was made for two reasons: we wanted the spots to look their best on TV and we were incorporating old standard def footage in smaller boxes. They’re currently airing on stations throughout the state.
