¿SE HABLA ESPANOL?

In 2000, I wrote and directed a video for the Virginia Department of Health’s “Women Infants Children” program (see “WIC-ked” in 2000 projects). When they wanted to explain the changes of their new computer program, they once again called me to work with the crew at Virginia’s Department of Information Technology.

This project is shown in the clinics, while mothers waited for their appointments, so I suggested a talk show format, with a “host” interviewing the “expert.” This allows for a conversational approach. We also broke up the talk by adding PSAs and previously-produced videos. For variety, we shot b-roll of moms in a real clinic.

The challenge: more and more of the WIC mothers speak Spanish. The solution: hire bi-lingual actors and shoot the entire show in both languages. Luckily, the b-roll needed no translation.

DIT’s Charlie Reilly did the editing and graphics in his facility.

Next time you’re in a Virginia WIC clinic, watch for the video…or just call 358-5320 or email me.
