TOO MANY COOKIES
I never thought I’d tire of eating cookies…until I spent several days surrounded by thousands of them.
The Park Group chose me to create new video for Interbake Foods. It needed to function as a corporate overview and new employee orientation. This meant shoots in New Jersey, Wisconsin and Ohio, as well as the familiar FFV facility in Richmond.
Since the footage is primarily assembly lines of cookies and crackers, I needed some way to spice it up. This came through the program design. I used two images on the screen at all times (except interviews). Graphic artist Dave Swain and I worked to create a grid pattern that echoes their logo, with mattes for two ragged-edged boxes. It’s hard to describe, but you can get an idea from the still frame at top.
We also interviewed more than 30 employees about their jobs and the company. Thanks to my ability to relax them and get great sound bites, the client decided to use more interviews than narrated footage. Lots of tight cuts (yours truly on the Avid) kept the pace popping and ended up in a “sweet” personal overview of the company.
