The Night Before (review)

Three buddies (Seth Rogen, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Anthony Mackie) get together for their annual Christmas Eve debauched adventure in NYC. Sounds like it could be hilarious and there are some laffs. Unfortunately, it’s usually just silly and even becomes serious with the warm holiday message. Rogen gets to play the fool and his seemingly ad-libbed wisecracks provide much of the fun. There are a few cameos that are amusing, primarily because of their presence, as opposed to good gags. While it’s energetic and even frantic, there’s not enough genuine humor and too much attempted drama to make it worth the eve (or matinee).
