Tom Cruise is back as the badass from the novels. The usually solo action hero teams up with an officer accused of treason (Cobie Smulders) to uncover the crooks behind a conspiracy. There’s lots of running, a few gunfights, plenty of hand-to-hand combat and some personal interaction. It’s all competently staged, but nothing stands out. Pretty much a by-the-numbers action flick with a steely Cruise sharing the screen with an equally tough woman.
