Suicide Squad (review)

DC Comics has tendered their version of The X-Men with a twist: this group is full of bad superheroes who are coerced into helping save the world. The weirdest part about this group is how unevenly matched their powers are: one can shoot torrents of fire from his hands, while another just has a bat and an sweet/mean attitude (Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, who steals the movie). As her bf, Jared Leto’s much-anticipated Joker doesn’t live up. The squad enters into several ho-hum encounters, but the hoped-for malevolent edge to the characters and the dialogue is sadly soft. The whole thing rambles as the writer strives to add meaningful backstories for depth and drama. Potential for another breakthru flick like “Deadpool” is sadly absent. NOTE: Stay thru the first set of closing credits for a teaser.
