Solo: A Star Wars Story (review)

Alden Ehrenreich assumes the mantle of Han Solo in yet another origin story. He also teams up with Chewbacca, encounters Lando Calrissian (Donald Glover) and helms the Millennium Falcon for the first time. All of the expected elements are here: hectic adventures, weird creatures and jaunty attitudes. Unfortunately, it plays like a bland revisit. Nothing about the script or the action brings anything original or fun. Ehrenreich shows some of the swagger established by Harrison Ford and Glover is OK, but the most memorable presence comes from Emilia Clarke, who’s beautiful spirit shines in her every scene. While this film never boring, it’s never exciting either. Those who need to stay in the fan loop have probably already seen it. The rest can wait til the next installment and hope for some thrills.
